An image made in July 2014 on the pier at Skegness, Lincolnshire. This image has been very popular over on my Twitter account. It shows a group of people occupying a bench at the end of the old (now truncated) pier as a storm rolls in from the North Sea over the offshore wind farm.
It’s Good Friday. As a Humanist, the religious aspect of this holds little interest for me, I merely observe, but as a photographer, I’m interested in the pageant and the spectacle. So it was, back in 2003, I visited Market Rasen here in Lincolnshire, to see the annual passion play. Sadly this event hasn’t taken place since 2006 I believe. (should anybody know different I would love to hear about it) Here are a few images from the day.
The project continues. Lincoln 2019
Here’s a few images from this project taken in Lincoln recently.
This year sees me working on a number of long term projects plus anything which attracts my attention. Lincoln. January. 2019.
Each year the ancient city of Lincoln in the East Midlands of England hosts the “Steam Punk Festival”. I’ve been visiting for some years now and the event has grown and grown. Thousands now attend, even from overseas. This year the numbers far exceeded anything I have seen before. There are some astonishing outfits created by the devotees in which they parade around the top end of the city, near to the castle and the cathedral. Those who are dressed in the most exceptional, outrageous even, outfits can hardly move for photographers who buzz around them, most with medium to long lenses. My choice is one camera and one lens, a short lens at that, so I have to get close. For example, this girl was deservedly mobbed. Quite astounding style and technical ability. This man was dressed as a Pirate, complete with a wooden leg. I asked if he had the leg strapped up. He said “I have no legs at all. Even the other is fake”. I saw a bus being filled with …
We decided to go away and do nothing. That’s unusual for us. A week away just doing nothing. I took just a few photographs trying to keep my promise to do nothing. Images from the Isle of Lesvos in Greece.
